Croc,

I picked up BBWG at a trading post near Mille Lacs in Minnesota, which was owned by an old guy who was quite interested in ethnography. He told me how the Chippewa made fishing nets out of fiber from stinging nettles, which had to be soaked in water a certain amount of time to strengthen and separate the fibers. Who knew? Kind of fascinating to learn about the nuts and bolts of daily Native American life. I bought almost a dozen books from him.

When I was a boy I found a stone knife on the beach in front of our lake cabin in Minnesota. Later in college I learned that it was made of Knife River Flint, which came from Buffalo Bird Woman's country in North Dakota. My anthropology prof estimated it was around 5,000 years old!

I just reviewed and bookmarked your links on the Canadian rivers and parks. And also that site for the National Library, which may be useful for genealogy. Looks like I'll have plenty of reading material this winter. <g>
