Ahhh...memories! Denver in the 40's and 50's had wonderful Christmas display windows at the May Company! It does seem to me they had a window with the manger scene, but most of the windows were filled with "stories" of the legends of the more modern Christmas....from the 1840's forward when St Nick first made his appearance in our Christmas fables. In very early American times, we didn't have Christmas in the New England colonies until the early 1800's (they didn't like the pagan ideas of Winter Solstice), while the Southern colonies (Williamsburg VA, etc) had Christmas much earlier. But no Santas' or St Nicks until the 1840's.
