Kind of interesting to see the women's side of life among those people. My perceptions had been shaped by the violence of the Sun Dance as witnessed by L&C and painted by Catlin.

When I was a boy I found a really cool stone blade on the beach at our family lake cabin in Minnesota. Years later I learned from my college anthropology professor that it was made of Knife River Flint from the Mandan/Hidatsa country in North Dakota. He estimated that it was around 5,000 years old!

Knife River Flint is a beautiful translucent quartz material that was widely traded over much of North America. Here's some links...
