What strikes me is the ridiculous sensitivity of so many on the left to be offended by any references to christianity in American culture.
What strikes me is the ridiculous sensitivity of some Christians to not being able to force Christianity into dominance in the public square, while claiming that America is a "Christian nation," which is silly. Just plain silly.
The majority of Americans, including the Founders, were at least nominally Christian (the smartest tended to be Deists), but the government is not Christian, never was, never will be. The Founders wanted the government to be secular, and it is. They came here to get away from state religion and religious wars.
We don't need, or want, religious wars here. Most of us WANT "a wall of separation between Church and state."
We don't need, or want, state endorsement of religion, ANY religion, not even Christianity. Jesus said, "render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's, and to God that which is God's." |
