It seems to me that this is a fight within Christianity more than a fight between secularity and Christianity.

It's both, actually.

But the head of "Americans for Separation of Church and State" is a Baptist minister.

If you study the history of Baptists in America, they used to be persecuted as heretics. At least one, a man named Merrill, was executed for heresy in Virginia (in 1769!). Virginia was founded by members of the Church of England, and the Virginia government required all residents to tithe to that Church, even members of other churches (who only had to pay half the tithe that members paid).

Jefferson was proud of his authorship of the Virginia Declaration of Religious Freedom. His epitaph, which he composed himself, is as follows:

HERE WAS BURIED
THOMAS JEFFERSON
AUTHOR OF THE
DECLARATION
OF AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE
OF THE
STATUTE OF VIRGINIA
FOR
RELIGIOUS FREEDOM
AND FATHER OF THE
UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA
BORN APRIL 2. 1743. O.S.
DIED JULY 4. 1826
