going to squelch that, you have to stop any public
expressions, no?

It's not about being squelched. It's about utilizing voluntary self-restraint based on courtesy. For me, at least. I wouldn't dream of squelching anyone. Only trying to raise consciousness hoping people's better natures will prevail.
