Europes economic policies are a failure ONLY if you believe that happiness comes from materialism. Thankfully Europeans are more mature.

Europe, like Canada and Australia and just about every other country in the world believes in looking after its citizens and thus has a social safety net which is expensive. This is preferable to having the greedy rich squander money on material things which are not at all required to have a great life.
