Actually, it was actor Robert Duvall who, as Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore, uttered those now famous words. It was in Francis Ford Coppola's 1979 Vietnam movie "Apocalypse Now".

The speech went something like this: "Do you smell that? Do you smell that? That's napalm, son. There is nothing else in this world that smells quite like it. I love the sweet smell of napalm in the morning." (The above "quote" is from memory, and it's more than quite possible that my memory is partially flawed... <g>)
