I'm going to have to think about this for awhile because I'm not sure I see your point. An accountant is a licensed professional whose primary responsibility is to assure the accuracy of records that will most often be presented to the government as proof of taxes owed. Lying on your taxes can result in jail time. Web logs are often just junk. Lying on them is usually meaningless.

My thinking is that the severity in Hansen's case is twofold: 1) his site logs involved the trading of marketable securities, and thus perhaps certain securities laws come into play, and (more likely) 2) the logs were destroyed after knowledge was gained of an FBI investigation, and thus there could be an obstruction of justice charge. The latter would apply to any possible evidence, not just site logs.
