Attorney General Jerry W. Kilgore (R) made no bones about the sanctity of Virginia's wardrobe regulation. The law was intended to standardize uniforms across the commonwealth, and it is "plain and unambiguous," the opinion said.
Well, hmmm. Who's going to give the Sheriff's department a ticket? I think that's what they meant when they said the law is "uninforceable." The cops won't give them a ticket, the prosecutors sure won't prosecute, the judges won't hear the case (because the court bailiffs work for the sheriff's department, and the judicial power rests, really, on the bailiffs), and, guess what, the sheriffs also run the jails and the prisons!
Let 'em have new uniforms, for criyi.
I do think having different colors from county to county is a problem, given the fact that they transport prisoners from county to county, etc. But the cops all have different color uniforms. It's the state police that all dress the same. |
