Bush and his political advisors have exhibited, in my view, utter disdain for the astuteness of the American voting public. They understand that voters can be marginalized, confused, terrified and herded like sheep as long as their daily lives are not too adversely affected. So far their assessments have been accurate.

I think that their values, their goals and their motivations are very different from yours. I would not, therefor, put too much credence in what you think a rational leader would do given your assessment of the situation. Ed
