Excellent point. Actually, I think democracy in the U.S. on the Federal level has been more or less a mirage for most of my life. They let us participate because they know it doesn't really make much of a difference regarding our national policies. Ds or Rs, it's pretty much the same old stuff, with a few adjustments here and there.

The elites understood well at the founding of this country how dangerous it was to give the people too much power. That's why they came up with the Electoral College and didn't have direct election of Senators. It was a way of keeping the masses from running amok.

I tell you one sign that the elites aren't interested in giving the people more power, is the fact that they haven't expanded the House of Representatives in years. There's nothing in the Constitution that stipulates how many house seats there must be. They could expand the House to 1,000 delegates and open the doors of Democracy wider, but obviously they have no interest in doing something like that. Oh, they're very happy with the way things are right now. No reason to rock the boat.

Sure we'll have the dog and pony show every four years to elect a new President, but in the end the policies remain the same: Pax Americana rule of the world.
