Bob, re "Can you or anyone else tell me why we need [ed: the ability to block all PMs]? "

GOAL 1: A few people write public messages politely, but are abusive and profane in PMs. I would like to block all PMs from that type of person.

GOAL 2: Often those same people write very useful and informative posts. I would like to read those public posts without clicking another link.

Blocking *all* PMs doesn't seem that useful, as I would like to occasionally PM with those who behave in private pretty much like they behave in public. Of course, we could (presumably) turn "Block All PMs" off when we wish to PM ... but that's really awkward ... especially when both parties "Block All PMs". Would we enable PMs via public posts or email? Really awkward!

So how *can* both GOALs be accomplished? I think the old SI had the perfect answer, i.e, the ability to selectively block PMs from certain users. But if must be, I can click the extra link per message ... and simultaneously wish for the old way.

Ron

P.S. I would now make a similar argument for the old SI style of blocking all *public* messages from certain (and not necessarily the same) users -- if I had the time. Maybe later.
