I don't think so.

This general controversy has two extremes. One is that religion should be kept private if it exists at all. The other is that this is a Christian nation and that everyone else should get lost or stay in the closet.

This specific controversy has two extremes. One is that the secular aspects of the holidays are what should be celebrated communally in public and the religious ones confined to church. The other is that this is the Christmas season ergo every public celebration for six weeks is inherently about the birth of Christ.

The point made was, I think, that the latter is piggish given that there have been celebrations of other things for eons. It didn't speak to the firmer but I would characterize that as churlish.

Making the point that one extreme is piggish doesn't imply a preference for the other extreme. It doesn't speak to the other extreme at all.
