In addition, we believe Qualcomm bundled along with
the CDMA offering an offer to deploy the TD-CDMA
technology, developed by privately owned IP
Wireless, in the 2.5 GHz MMDS band owned by
Nextel. This deployment would be designed to
provide superior data rates that could support
applications impossible in other networks (at least for
the next 3-5 years).

Nextel moving to CDMA might not be news, but this sure as hell is. Since both Nextel and Sprint had trialed Flarion I just assumed they would move in that direction in the MMDS band, Sprint was pretty clear Flash-OFDM was still on the table at 2.5GHz even though they passed in the PCS band.

Beyond the technology, Nextel appears hell-bent on attacking the broadband market, this could be a lot of fun. VZW and Cingular have wireline parents, I bet they do not like this merger and Nextel's ambitions one bit. Watching SBC squirm would give me great pleasure. Has anyone stopped to look at their WCDMA plans. Not only is the timetable right out of a science fiction novel, look at the cost estimates. They are telegraphing a brand new WCDMA network with a cost on par with Sprint's estimate for upgrading to DO. LOL, I doubt it.
