It's isn't difficult to reach the conclusion that it was clear discrimination aimed at Christians.

If that's the conclusion you're predisposed to reach, I guess it's easy. I still think you're missing the thrust of this by painting with too broad a brush. What's really easy to conclude is that there were lots and lots of Christians participating.

The issue is admitting that we discriminate.

Is there someone claiming that there is no discrimination in this?

I don't know what point Pastor George Morrison and his Church was trying to make in applying to participate in the Denver parade? I have a feeling it was merely to celebrate the season in their own way and sharing that with others.

Personally, I think the guy is misguided. I've been thinking about this for some time now. Here we have this parade that showcases our societies subcultural oddities, things that are rare and strange to most adults and probably colorful and fascinating for kids. It's like going to the Smithsonian. You get to gawk at strange and wonderful things. Just like at the Smithsonian, you learn a little something about different cultural heritages and maybe you get a warm, fuzzy feeling of brotherhood. Or maybe you react to it like it's a carnival freak show. Maybe quaint. Maybe weird. Maybe a little bit of both.

So here comes the good reverend with this baby Jesus he wants to put on the stage along with the belly dancers and the Chinese lion dance and all the "other" rare and strange things. Taking something that is well known and sacred and lumping it in with things that are quaint or weird does more to isolate "Christians" than the parade organizers.
