Don't get too excited, Brumar. I read this article, also, and this scientist is believing in an intelligent hand who created the universe, not some red state idea of god:

"I'm thinking of a God very different from the God of the Christian and far and away from the God of Islam, because both are depicted as omnipotent Oriental despots, cosmic Saddam Husseins," he said. "It could be a person in the sense of a being that has intelligence and a purpose, I suppose."

I think there are quite a few people who consider themselves non-religious who believe there may have been a god at the beginning of things, but she has since died or disappeared or whatever gods do . . .
