My 'thesis' is that there is a problem in Muslim society and I thinks it stands up to any kind of scrutiny, and its not a guess.

When it comes down to it, I probably believe the same things you believe. The only difference is that you say it with such finality and with little or no room to view this from a different perspective.

I don't think anyone can disagree that Muslim society has problems . A lot of it has to do with how they deal with modernity.

However, everyone has problems. Every society has its own set of problems.

I like to use sports analogies (because the rules are simple and the lines are clearly drawn):

When you see two teams of players playing mixed doubles in tennis, there are certain men that are always berating their female partners for making mistakes. But if you look at it in another way, it may bew true she is the weaker player making more mistakes than her partner, but if the partner would just concentrate on eliminating his own mistakes, the team can probably improve by more than 50% from making unforced errors.

So it is with more complex situations, we are always concentrating on other people's mistakes, faults, and weaknesses - but if we only can concentrate on making ourselves better - we would in the end be much better off.
