I expected the losses and so was not surprised. From what I can gather, some of the shipments they'd hoped to get out by the last day of the year were pushed into the next quarter so these revenues will show up in Q1. And, yes, the company is revving up for serious manufacturing and the present focus on financing is done with that in mind. If they had nothing for which to gear up, we could be worried. I believe the Street recognizes this, as well.
I followed the market quite closely today and there were very few sellers. Every time I tried to buy, they gave me part of my order and then moved up the bid. I started at 16.625 and worked my way up to 17 3/16, with each order getting part filled and then having to move my offer, and eventually got everything filled until the last and then only got 1/5 of what I wanted. There was a big move from 358K to 375K and then it climbed steadily to the close, with a couple thousand traded after the final bell. I was not the only buyer by a long shot. Incidentally, this is the first time I've bought in months. I could be wrong but my intuition tells me we'll see some serious appreciation over the next few weeks. This is only my opinion and I could be dead wrong. I've certainly been wrong before.
As a side note, the most recent issue of Telephony has an ad by Motorola saying, "Congratulations Amati!" Then in smaller print, "Commercial deployment has begun. Amati won BC TEL's business to provide ADSL systems. Motorola is proud to be a strategic partner of one of the leading vendors of ADSL. Thank you Amati for driving the future of ADSL." In small text at the bottom is Motorola's logo.
Under the large "Congratulations Amati!" is an even larger Amati "A."
I'm told Telephony is one of the most highly-read journals in the telecommunications industry. I have a faxed copy here by the computer and seeing Amati's name this big feels pretty darn good.
