I predict down the road (maybe 1-3 years), google will buy one of the leaders involved with the Linux operating system and seriously threaten the dominance of Microsoft by combining the operating system with their search engine.

Microsoft has already developed a database file system. It was supposed to be included in Windows XP, but they pushed it back. The database fs has been around for a long time, and there are some experimental dbfs implementations for Linux.

As to "everything is moving to the web", the "network computer" concept has been bandied about as a buzzword for over a decade, and its 100% hype. There's too many problems - network reliability and availability, trust, etc. Google is grand, don't get me wrong. But I smell the '90s in the Google hype, and it stinks.
