as long as he doesn't try to cram it down my throat.

I guess this is where I have trouble with the whole thing. It isn't as if this happened every day and all other religions were completely excluded. I don't see the damages. This music represents centuries of our cultural heritage. IMO, and I may stand alone on this, it's a far cry from daily prayer in school, or a judge putting up the Ten Commandments in the dead of night as a permanent display of his personal faith in the courthouse which IS cramming down throats.
(edit: if the choir director started each class with a rendition of The Doxology, I would rush to your side)

In my husband's company headquarters, there was a large display in the lobby last fall about either Ramadan or Muslims-- I forget which. I can't imagine what would be said about a display of CHrist or Lent and Easter, but I bet it wouldn't remain there without someone lodging big complaints.

People seem to spend a great deal of time looking for things they can then claim are being crammed down their throats. Like the princess and the pea, they bruise very easily.

Edit again: I am off to practice all these religious pieces which are much harder than Santa Baby. In fact, at this moment, I am wishing desperately the concert was made up of Frosty and Rudolph and those Jingling Bells.
