China-- hard to tell what's going on with TD-SCDMA. Last month the less biased trial reports said it was running badly, which is probably the truth. This week:

"T3G Chairman Mr. Tang Ru’an commented that: “With a series of breakthroughs made in the TD-SCDMA terminal chipset field lately, when can the mature, diversified and mass produced terminal will be launched become a new focus. T3G and Samsung’s commercial handset indicates that that time has come.”"

"Philips can already offer a solution for the dual-mode TD-SCDMA/GSM handsets that will ease operators‘ migration from 2G to 3G networks, enabling them to build up 3G subscriber numbers with minimal capital investment."
