Grainne, I'm glad you read that particular account of Indian slavery. I choose to make no retroactive judgments of anyone on the slavery issue. The mind-sets of people so long ago were just too alien for us to understand. It is entirely possible that those people looked upon less-civilized people as something less than fully human and rationalized slavery on that basis without seeing it as anything evil. We ourselves might be condemned by future generations for practices such as abortion. It is entirely possible that some people in 3004 will look at us as being "truly evil" for tolerating that practice.

I am all too aware of the slavery that still exists. One of my academic research interests was in the exploitation of third-world factory women in the export processing zones throughout Asia. I published quite a few papers on the subject and lectured upon it at conferences in Singapore, Europe, and South America. As a marketer, my interest was in the damage that such exploitation ultimately causes to the to the U.S. firms that support and benefit from it.

You see, I have had a life other than my alias here on SI, as have you and all others. ;-)
