Can you show me posts that actually cheer the enemy or gloat over new additions to the death rolls of our troops?

Can you show me posts stating that the men and women in uniform are just thugs and killers?

I can understand your asking for that, but it would be a monumental task and not one I choose to undertake.

Let's leave it this way: I drew a conclusion and made a generalization based on reading perhaps thousands of posts on several threads. You have responded that my characterization is "very unfair," and that will be duly noted by anyone following these exchanges. Maybe there will be other responses taking one side or the other.

As to the "thugs and killers," I agree that bad apples have always slipped into the military at times. But I think the broader problem is that large-scale combat inevitably leads to a great number of split-second decisions to use deadly force in the heat of battle. Many of the choices will not hold up to lengthy, leisurely examination of the circumstances by people in comfy armchairs back home. (This is the "Cop shoots unarmed suspect" scenario multiplied many times over). If the media is on the scene and keeping a sharp lookout for such instances, they will not be hard to find. And every instance that is publicized will be another knife in the back of the military. I see absolutely no good coming from this, especially when the media is not on high alert to find examples of extraordinary courage or good works on the part of the same military.

We all know "War is Hell." We should leave it at that and support the young men and women who have put their life on the line.
