Well, I think you are right about the evangelicals, but Amy seems to lump Catholics in with them and there she is wrong.

I think Galileo taught the Catholics something about opposing science. But note that Catholics are also more Dem then Rep, although religious issues such as abortion and gay marriage are shifting that. Oddly enough, Mormons, which have an alternate and wacky history of the earth for the last couple K years (Native americans being somehow the "lost tribes of Israel"??) accept evolution as well.

Republicans are increasingly become a group which places faith, religion and economics above scientific reasoning. This is not a prescription for long term success, if one lives in a world where other countries are not so foolish.
