Is the primary key a clustered index as that will be a mistake.

Since a primary key has to be unique, and a clustered index takes advantage of grouping a non-unique field, yes, that'd be one heckuva mistake.

In my experience, clustered indexes haven't gained me anything unless I'm using them on fields that have very few possible different values in them.
