| Ish, Yeah. If they last 50 years, there no reason for us to sit around to watch it fall apart. Trex sounds like a different version of Hardi-plank, and maybe lighter in weight. In Houston, I re-did a house with Hardi-plank, and was impressed as to how easy it was to work, and research was done by my oldest Son, which indicated there were test homes built in the 1920's out of the original formula of Hardi-plank, that are still standing, and have suffered no rot, warping, or termite infestation. I guess, at that time, wood was so available that builders didn't consider the added cost of the new compound. As I recall, Hardi-plank is a combination of coarse saw dust, cement, and some kind of glue, to hold it all together. On the house in Houston, they had no problem with nailing, screwing, or painting, so it is easy to work with except that it is about 3 times as heavy as wood. |
