Buchanan's initial analogy is total crap. First, we were never in a position of being the colonial power in Iraq. Second, we are not coming to the aid of exploited minorities, we are coming to the aid of the majority of Iraqis, who were exploited by elements of the Sunni Arab minority. Third, most Iraqis are not supporting the insurgents, nor are those supporting insurgency rallying around one leader. Most provinces are pretty peaceful. Fourth, even Sunnis are participating in the elections, and have submitted names for the electoral lists.

We cannot make a firm commitment to leave until troop levels are sufficient among Iraqi security forces.
