I could not disagree more strongly. I will give you two disparate examples that prove to me at least that governments are in no way interested in "popular pressure".

A Vision of Nightmares, Evil and Distrust:

That is the radical fundamentalist approach to power politics.

In sharp contrast is the Vision of Hope and Progress, presented by those odious old Communists:

Both governments hope to secure energy for their future development. One is an imperial dinosaur, and the other an ascending dragon.

Take your pick. I know who I believe to be the more enlightened leadership. :)

But in neither case are the leaders merely bowing to public pressure. They are leaders, after all. ;) Or in the case of America, world class liars, schemers and thieves.
