WW2 analogistics have been beaten to death too many times here. My recollection from the election was that it was sort of too hot to handle, since they didn't want to risk pairing W with FDR. So instead, toward the end, W was allegedly like Lincoln. That particular comparison made me nostalgic for the relative rationality of the local analogies.

A reverse analogy that comes to mind: In the runup to W's war, there was a brief story I noticed (and posted here) about Saddam trying (and failing) to smuggle Mig-21 parts out of Serbia for his decrepit air force. Imminent threat, indeed. Analogistically speaking, I'd guess the equivalent WW2 thing would be Hitler smuggling Fokker triplane parts out of Ethiopia, or something.
