A few other builders in addition to Pulte are starting to emulate the factory built home-module techniques pioneered 20 years ago by Weyerhauser homebuilding companies like Pardee Construction. When I worked for Pardee this gave us close to a 10% price advantage over other builders. Put more simply, in highly competitive areas we made a 20% profit margin when other builders were making 10%. Once all builders implement these techniques, no one will have an advantage. It will all be reflected in lower home prices. *Pulte has opened up its own factory to produce major construction components and is testing the concept in a limited area.* .
