I've read extensively about him over the past year. He likes to debate and discuss all sides of a subject, eventually comes down on each side, depending on his audience.

He received an elite education, has good speaking ability, has the accent and persona of an upper class New Englander. I consider this veneer. What has he accomplished, intellectually or otherwise, that is impressive? He has had a successful political career as measured by advancement to the Senate, not as measured by legislative accomplishment and, of course, success at wooing and marrying wealthy women.

Contrast him to Patrick Moynihan, who was what I'd consider a real intellectual/politician:
