- President Bush pledged Wednesday to work with Congress to reduce the government's huge budget deficit as a key step in assuring the world that his administration supports a strong dollar. While he is "only" speaking about reducing the budget deficit it needs a budget surplus to reduce the massive federal debt. And then he is not talking. Admitetly a string if contiued lower deficits would show the financial world that the government is serious with its intention but to really solve the problem we need a gradual reduction of the total debt. And in talking about it, it would also be very constructive if the Administration would quit the practice of so called "off budget" debt items. Corporations are asked to show an honest book keeping, why not the government?? Would be well to open an extra forum devoted only to this. Fred
