That's true and because of their lack of credibility a very much higher standard is applied to those who try to refute the official line that to those who adhere to it. Indeed, any statement printed in a mainline newspaper or uttered by a government spokesman is considered to be a fact while any opinion, hypothesis or research offered by anyone in opposition to that is regarded as a conspiracy theory, unpatriotic or even subversive.

It's exactly the same with morality -- those who go to church or synagogue are a priori considered to be decent, virtuous and law-abiding while atheists or dis-believers are regarded as immoral, unethical or even criminal. Those who attend mosque are tarred with the same brush as atheists.
