Yep, MFE was actually downgraded to a sell by an analyst because of the MSFT threat.

So with that in mind, perhaps SYMC's acquisition of Veritas is protection against the MSFT threat? Essentially SYMC is buying a cash cow in a different sector. The percentage of total revenue SYMC's AV products will represent after the merger will be significantly lower than what it is now. It reduces the exposure from the Microsoft threat. Veritas will also bring with it a sales force with excellent corporate inroads.
