Hi Jewel. I think that's a pretty well rounded list. I'm not sure if this in itself is a story, or simply a combination of several of those stories, but I'd nominate the growing chasm in America between 'blue' and 'red'.
In my opinion, these two groups have not actually moved away from each other philosophically, but a combination of the media and the political parties have created that illusion. Divisiveness is important to both the media and the political parties (they use the code word 'differentiation'), and they've discovered how easy it is to increase this chasm, and thus, their power (and, ultimately, $$).
Another one might by The Media, which would include the rise of FOX, Rathergate, the Liberal/Conservative media wars, the rise of the internet as a media and check/balance mechanism, and the resulting decline of the major network media power.
Looking back on this post, you can see I'm vying for the Stephen King of Posts award; i.e. I guess I could have said the same thing in about 10% of the space... |
