Yes but, unfortunately for your theory, gold is also a currency, or perhaps a better term is a proxy-currency.

This chart (which I often post) of the gold price in Euros shows that gold is range-bound to the value of the Euro. Perhaps if POG in Euros can get above E350, and stay there, gold may have a chance of a "separate life", but not until then.
