<Institutions such as Christmas, the boy scouts, marriage, and the pledge of allegiance to name a few, seem to be under full assault.>

Most of humanity gets by very happily without any of those, though monogamous commitment seems to me to be an important aspect of life [whether the state gets in on the act with an actual legal knot, or not]. So their demise could hardly be seen as a particularly bad thing.

I like Xmas, I've been a boy scout and I'm married [though none of our offspring are and I was indifferent to being married]. I don't like the idea of pledges of allegiance. They seem a bit too Orwellian for my taste. What do you do if you disagree with something?

If people want Xmas, they can do it in the privacy of their own homes if nobody else is interested. If they want to play scouts, they can form a club. If they want to be committed to a sexual partner, they can. If they want to chant allegiance incantations, feel free to do so.
