to find, organize, and publish
Glad to, IG. What I am doing is one of the most interesting projects I have ever been involved with. The secret is the new RSS feeds for sites, and the news aggregators that are available to organize them.
I use the "Bloglines" news aggregator, which is the one I happened upon, and I run though it constantly all during the day. I keep SI open as my home page, and the bloglines site for my blogs. I keep the newspapers and any site I can't or don't want on the aggregator in my "Bookmarks" sidebar.
If I am up at 2:30AM, which I usually am, I start in for the day. During the winter, that is 7:30AM EST. From my sidebar, I first check "Romenesko," the Pointer site, for Media news. Then I check "Real Clear Politics" for political stories. They are up by 7:30AM EST. After posting what is of interest from these two, I check Bloglines. I clean up all the Blogs that have new posts, and post anything of interest from them. I then go to "National Review" and check "Kerry Spot" and "The Corner." By now it is 3AM and I can get the 9AM EST articles from NRO. This cleans up loose ends, and I go to bed about 3 or 4 AM.
I then go to sleep for 4 or 5 hours, and get up about 9 or 10 in the morning. That's 2 or 3 PM EST. I check what you guys have posted while I am out and answer any needed over breakfast. I subscribe to 158 blogs at the moment though Bloglines. When I check them in the morning there are usually about 200 posts waiting to be skimmed. I post any of interest and click though to any articles of interest to me that they have linked and post the best ones. This takes me until noon.
I then do household, shop, go to the beach, etc. I come back, skim bloglines again, and get down for a 3 or 4 hour nap. The eastern papers are posted for the next day at 6:30 PM my time. I check them, check the Weekly Standard, Opinion Journal, and the American Spectator. Then off to dance, read, or watch some TV. I then clean up the bloglines that are ready. For instance, tonight I danced for 4 hours at Zanzabar, and had a terrific time. Right now, it is about 12:45AM, and I have about 40 blog posts to skim. I will do that, read, and go to bed.
I look upon this thread as my personal blog, with the added advantage of immediate feedback from my readers. My life is the internet, dancing, and the beach. Not too bad for an old fart.
