I can see why holidays are more dangerous. More travel, more drinking, perhaps more conflict with relatives who you avoid on non-holidays. Of course that would make other holidays more dangerous as well. I'm not sure why Christmas stands out over Thanksgiving. There is more likely to be snow or ice on Christmas but I'm not sure if that would be enough. Certainly Christmas is not normally the coldest day of the year or the day most likely to have snow or ice.
