<< I wouldn't count contraceptive use or abortion as part of "sexual selection".>

My comment: //Why not? Women are selecting the guy to not have a baby. //

<<Its not sexual selection because its not a decision not to have sex with the guy.

Also the decision may have little to do with the guy and esp. little to do with how sexually attractive the woman finds him to be.>

Tim, it still looks to me as though she's choosing NOT to have a baby with him, for whatever reasons. The myriad of reasons add up to a decision to have or to not have his baby. Nature doesn't care about reasons. DNA propagation is ONLY interested in the outcome. The outcome is she ditched him. Not only that, she seduced him into wasting mating time which he might better have expended elsewhere if she'd sent him on his way unsatisfied. A double whammy for the poor bloke's DNA.

In the case of a contraceptive sexual relationship, she's satisfying sexual feelings without the normal consequence of a baby. She is still deeming him not suitable for a baby - and therefore herself too. A double-barrelled sexual selection. That's a biologist's dream in the animal pest world - getting sterile mating to reduce a population.

But in the case of the human females, they are quite likely to go on to find a suitable bloke later and let him do the job for real. In fact, that's the usual process these days.

It's sexual selection writ large! The first bloke in isn't necessarily the one whose DNA gets propagated. The woman has really got control!! It's turbo-charged sexual selection on steroids.
