1999's Three Kings, which told the story of a group of cynical, self-serving US soldiers.

Unfair! Three Kings is a pretty good movie. Three Americans are captured by vicious, evil Ba'athist types, find themselves with a lot of Saddam's gold, decide to take it with them when they escape. So that's the self-serving part. Their fellow prisoners are decent ordinary Iraqis, whom they save, too.

There is a twist at the end, which I won't spoil, but suffice it to say that the Americans listen to their conscience and Do The Right Thing. It's cynical, yes, but funny, and ultimately redeeming.

Maybe I'll rent it again. I have a tummy ache so did not go with Chris and the boys to see the new Lemony Snicket movie.
