We have all sorts of exceptions to that. Here in the Islands, the Polynesians have race-based schools, Homestead rights, etc, that are based on "blood." This present ho-ha over christmas started because we used to go totally "christian" during this holiday and the PC crowd that runs our school system has gone was past the law in correcting it.

I suspect part of it is a reaction to the election. The media has seized upon it as a backlash to the outcome, and is publishing much more about it, which tends to distort what is really going on.
