I've ordered and received a testing kit for DNA for geneaological research, which comes with three swabs. My intention is to give swab one to my dad, to test his Y-Chromosome DNA, one to my mom, to test her mitochondrial DNA, and one to my hubby, to test HIS Y-chromosome DNA. The results will cover me and my boys, so no reason to test us.
I am a tiny bit hesitant to ask my dad, because I am a bit worried that he will think I think he is not my dad. My parents were not married when my mother got pregnant. He was drafted for the Korean war and they did what young people often do before a young man goes to war.
Actually, I am not worried. I look very much like him, and we have several of the same medical conditions - Schlatsky's ring, sleep apnea, eat too much, drink too much, even make the exact same snorting noise when our noses are stuffed up.
Anyway, I need to do it soon. My dad is 72, my mom 70. |
