If you have really severe chronic pain, then you need a pain specialist. I represented a man who had severe nerve damage from complications from cancer therapy, and the treating physician, who was found guilty of malpractice, basically allowed him to take as many narcotics as he wanted. Probably guilty conscience.

I helped get him referrals to a pain clinic, where they put him through rehab and then got him onto methadone, which is quite good for pain control but doesn't turn you into a zombie.

I have no experience with Vicodan. But my little hip pain isn't enough for major narcotics, just a little anti-inflammatory to take the edge off.
