JDN, I was on Kumar's side too. Someone said something about avoiding the word because it could be misunderstood in America, but it wasn't me. That's why I posted the definition from a dictionary to prove the point that it was not an offensive word on a racial basis.
Some may not have noticed it, but I am rather outspoken, and will call a spade, a spade. I have even been chastised for using that expression, as if I was being a bigot. Some people just don't know the meanings of many phrases, and if they have a chip on their shoulder, they tend to get pissed off instead of learning the true meaning of a phrase, or word.
There have been several phrases that I have used, that ignorant people have called me a bigot about. Once I said the word, "people" and was attacked by the question; "what you mean by people?" He got the idea I was denigrating black people by saying it, but he didn't know that "people" meant: 1.a body of persons living in the same country under one government -2.a body of persons sharing a common religion, culture, language, or inherited condition of life. I tried to explain that to him, but he was too hard headed to understand, and preferred to be hostile about it.
As far as I am concerned, I have never been, and never will be, a member of the politically correct weenies. |
