Glenn, I understand what you are saying, and have, and have had in the past, some good friends that were black, and would never want to make them feel uneasy towards me.
But if one wanted to really make an issue of the word, "nigger", which I hate to hear said, it came from a simple source in the beginning. It was first used for the people that inhabited the area along the Niger River in Africa, and was not meant to be insulting, or lowering, in the beginning. Over the following decades, that word has been placed in a different category, and is now even made exclusive to the black people in America. It's just hunky dory for one black man to call another black man that name, but God save the white man that uses it. |
