Sure, many of your points are valid. But imagine this scenario. Cisco already has the lion's share of the networking market globally. One very bright greenfield is China. If Huawei ends up eating Cisco's lunch in China, which is by no means a certainty, then they could use what they learn to expand globally and compete fiercely. Just a thought. Evenso, I would never discount Cisco's ability to compete against the likes of Huawei. I remember when Nortel and Lucent tried to compete against Cisco on price. That didn't work. In Marketing 101, the first thing they tell you is only compete on price when everything else has failed. Chambers, a master marketer himself, realizes this.

Having said that, Huawei is on its home turf and the Chinese gov't isn't above stacking the deck in the favor of homegrown companies. If I remember correctly, some of the founders of Huawei came from gov't ranks and still have pretty nice ties to officials. So if China is where all the future networking growth is going to be, then Cisco has its work cut out for them. People will Mandarin skills and tech savvy will be in heavy demand.
