Most Phase IV's though are run voluntarily by companies to try to get label expansions.
I would modify this somewhat. Most phase IV studies are 'marketing' studies designed to be published in journals or presented at conferences or symposia. While many studies may be targeting unapproved indications or populations, only a small portion of these are intended for submission to seek label expansion.
