The P.T. guy that arranged the walker for me said I need to get a good pair of walking shoes and work my way up to 2 miles a day. That's about 14 round trips to the mailbox. When I had a stomach stapling surgery in 1987, I started a routine of walking a measured 5 miles in 65 minutes, eventually twice a day; helped me lose 142lbs in 9 months. Had to stop when I tripped and nearly broke a leg on the concrete sidewalk. 5 mph walking speed makes for a rather sudden impact. Leg was badly bruised from knee to foot for about a month. Dr said I had lost enough weight and to take it easy; I have ever since, until now, I guess. :~)
